Our history is a small business success story:

A family-owned, eastern Ontario business for almost five decades, Cruickshank Construction has grown into a multi-service company specializing in road building, road maintenance and providing construction materials.

We had a modest beginning. In 1956, Les Cruickshank put a grader to work on the St. Lawrence Seaway project. That project, and the economic boom it created, provided several years of reliable contract work, and the company began to grow. Reinvesting in equipment and quarries, Cruickshank Construction was able to turn successfully to road building when the Seaway was completed.

Since the early 1960’s, Cruickshank Construction has specialized in road construction and maintenance. We have worked on construction projects throughout Ontario. In the early years, Cruickshank was active constructing many of the 500 series highways into the recreational regions of the province.

Major acquisitions in the 1980’s added new quarry and asphalt operations which  allowed Cruickshank to evolve into a truly full-service road building company. Our operations throughout eastern Ontario employ up to 300 people during the peak construction period.

Cruickshank Construction is very proud of our employees who make the success of the company possible. We have many long-time employees with more than 25 years of service. Several families are third-generation Cruickshank employees. We hire only the best people, and they choose to stay with us – in part because of our fine safety record. It ranks among the best in Ontario’s road building and aggregate industries. We believe that our commitment to safety gives us a competitive edge.

Cruickshank Construction is now under the guidance of Steve Cruickshank, who became company president in 1999. Les Cruickshank is still active as a consultant to the company and often participates in special projects.
